SQL Server Active Directory Admin should be configured

Azure Active Directory authentication for SQL Database uses Azure AD identities, providing an alternative to SQL Server authentication. This helps centralize permission management and reduces proliferation of identities, and eliminates the need to store more passwords.

Azure Portal

  • Navigate to SQL servers.

  • Select the SQL server.

  • In the left navigation, select Azure Active Directory.

  • Click on Set admin and select an admin.

  • Click Save.

Azure Powershell

  • To enable Active Directory Admin on SQL Server:

Set-AzureRmSqlServerActiveDirectoryAdministrator -ResourceGroupName <resource group name> -ServerName <server name> -DisplayName "<Display name of AD account to set as DB administrator>"
